22 June 2010 | Posted in News

Stranraer Academy and Annan Academy have gained success at this years Formula Schools national schools competition.Stranraer in only their second year in the competition have grabbed the overall championship trophy. The points gained from engineering put the team in the top five but a fair gap behind past champions Serlby Park. But absolute domination at race day allowed the team get the F1-style 25 points for winning race day to catch and pass the opposition and to gain a two point advantage overall.

More awards came to the region as Annan High School came home with the trophy for the best Race Day Display. The all girl team were totally surprised but pleasantly pleased to take a trophy home, also in their second year at the competition at the Silverstone Race track in Northamptonshire.

Passed double winners DBT McNish Racing from Dalbeattie High School were also at the race day finals but this year they were acting as marshals. Ron Orr - regional organiser for Formula Schools said "I am so pleased that this year's competition has again been won by a school from our region. This means that for three out of the last four years the trophy has been won by schools from Dumfries and Galloway. This continues a rich tradition of motor racing success enjoyed by the region".
