Britain’s Allan McNish will start the 61st Sebring 12 Hours tomorrow (SAT) from the front row of the 42-car grid in Florida having been denied pole-position by a mere 0.009secs.
Four-time Sebring race winner McNish and Tom Kristensen (DK), who has won at Sebring a record six times, are joined by Lucas di Grassi (BR) in a brand new 2013-specification hybrid-diesel Audi R18 e-tronquattro.
Dumfries-born McNish set a personal fastest time of 1min 43.895secs, an average speed of 129.592mph around the 3.74-mile track, in today’s (FRI) brief, single 15-minute time trial.
“We knew qualifying was probably going to be a battle between the two Audi sportscars so it was a case of pushing to the absolute limit from the start,” commented McNish.
“Unfortunately I came across some traffic when the tyres were probably at their peak but I had a clean lap the next time around. It was a very good lap, the maximum the car would do. But Tom, Lucas and I have a good car for the race and so I’m optimistic for a good result.”
The second “factory” R18 e-tronquattro of Cambridgeshire’s Oliver Jarvis, making his race debut at Sebring, plus Marcel Fässler (CH) and BenoîtTréluyer (F), set the fastest time of 1:43.886 (129.604mph) in the hands of Fässler in the time trials staged in sunny and warm weather conditions to deny McNish in the closing stages.
The “factory” Audi is contesting the opening race in the 2013 American Le Mans season in preparation of its FIA World Endurance Championship defence.
The race, which Audi has already won 10 times since its debut in 1999, begins at 1430* on Saturday.
Allan has acted as an ambassador for many diverse organisations, both large and small. His knowledge of the business environment is second-to-none and this shows in his professional and engaging dialogue, supported by his passion to get it right.
