Allan McNish steered his diesel-engined Audi home to fourth place in the penultimate round of the Le Mans Series at the Nürburgring today (17 Aug).
"We had already had problems with our car in qualifying the previous day,” recounted McNish. “Despite the best efforts overnight of our engineers and team, these gremlins unfortunately stayed with us for the race. The car was inconsistent.”
Hello everybody and I hope you enjoyed the Olympics, and the 47 medals, including 19 Golds, that Great Britain brought home. It is a fantastic effort by everybody and shows all the hard work that UK Sport did in the past with the Elite Coach programme for example, who are really starting to reap rewards which bodes really well for 2012.
It was very interesting working with UK Sport on some of these programmes and one thing I realised was that in motorsport we do a lot of things very, very well but there are some areas that we are still pretty weak on and one of them being a lack of consistency in understanding the athletes themselves and understanding the stresses that they are under.
